New: The classification database from GS1 is added. GS1 is a neutral, global collaboration platform that develops standards, baeed on inpout from industry leaders, government, regulators, academia, and associations. By using their standards for food items, it will be possible to develop statistics, aggregations etc. in standardized from, ready fro use by others.

GS1 have food items collected in the Segment, an industry sector "Food/Beverage/Tobacco". A subgroup to this is the family: "Fruits/Vegetables/Nuts/Seeds Prepared/Processed". In this family GS1 have classes like "Vegetables - Prepared/Processed". Classes contain what is called Bricks, a category of similar products. A brick in this class is "Vegetables - Prepared/Processed (Shelf Stable)" and f.ex. MUNG BEAN is in this brick. Using this systematic approcach, the comparisons and calculations of food items become incredibly usefull.
